The I-55 Mississippi River Bridge, an essential connector between Memphis and Arkansas, will be closing for two weeks. The closure, starting Sunday, March 10, at 8:00 pm, will last until Sunday, March 24, at 8:00 pm, to allow for important construction work on the bridge deck.
Detour plans: The shutdown will affect the I-55 southbound at Bridgeport Road in Arkansas and I-55 northbound at South Parkway in Tennessee, though local traffic can still exit at McLemore. Detours are suggested via I-40 for impacted travelers.
What's happening: TDOT crews are set to perform hydro-demolition and add a new polymer concrete overlay, a substance that requires specific temperature conditions and careful handling. This first of two scheduled closures is part of the ongoing I-55 and Crump interchange construction efforts.
4th of 8 closures for the I-55 bridge in #Memphis starts Saturday at 5am through Monday 6am#PlanAhead
