Deputy killed in crash after drifting into semi-truck's path

Early in the morning on September 19th, a tragic accident occurred on U.S. Highway 301 in Thonotosassa, Florida. The crash involved Hillsborough County Deputy Darell Brown and a flatbed semi-truck.

The details: Deputy Brown, driving a Ford F-150, drifted into oncoming traffic for unknown reasons. The truck driver tried to avoid the collision but couldn't. Brown was killed instantly. The semi-truck jackknifed and the pickup was pushed about 100 yards.

  • The semi-truck driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
  • Brown was a nearly 10-year veteran at the Orient Road Jail booking unit.
  • He was married, had five children, and his father works as a crossing guard at the sheriff's office.

What they're saying: "Our hearts break for the family, friends, and loved ones of Deputy Brown as they navigate this incomprehensible loss," stated Sheriff Chad Chronister.

  • "Deputy Brown was more than just a colleague; he was a friend, a mentor, and a source of inspiration to many," Chronister added.

All lanes of U.S. 301 were closed for several hours. They have since reopened, according to WTSP News.
