Box truck driver tragically killed in log truck collision

A tragic accident unfolded on October 2 near the International Paper mill in Columbus County, North Carolina, when a box truck collided with a log truck.

How it happened: The log truck was making a turn into the facility when the box truck rear-ended it, resulting in a fatal injury.

  • A log approximately 3 inches thick penetrated the box truck, striking the driver in the stomach.
  • Firefighters were quick to utilize a chainsaw to free the driver from the impalement.

The driver was rushed to a hospital, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after midnight on October 3.

Authorities: Local fire departments acted swiftly at the scene, emphasizing efficiency in a dire situation.

The incident remains under investigation by local authorities. Details about roadway closures or further delays at the mill have not been released as of now.
