Altercation on I-24 leads to trucker's tragic death

A tragic incident occurred on November 5, 2024, on I-24 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, involving a truck driver and a motorist.

The situation: The altercation started when a semi truck allegedly cut off a sedan, forcing it into a concrete barrier.

  • The truck driver, a 27-year-old from New York, exited his vehicle and reportedly assaulted the sedan's driver.
  • The 28-year-old sedan driver from Georgia shot the truck driver, claiming self-defense.

The aftermath: After shooting the truck driver, the sedan driver called 911 and stayed at the scene. The trucker was taken to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

Current status: Chattanooga Police Department's Homicide Unit is investigating the self-defense claim.

Thankfully, I-24 east was reopened by 7 p.m. that day after being closed for several hours during the investigation.
