A semi-truck driver's quick thinking probably saved his life early Tuesday morning when steel bars crashed through his truck's cab, pinning him to the ceiling.
What happened: Around 7 a.m. on I-75 in Monroe County, Michigan, the driver called 911 after slamming on the brakes, causing his load to break loose.
- The load pushed his seat forward, trapping him against the ceiling.
- Despite his dire situation, the driver managed to contact emergency services, expressing distress as he reported, "I crashed my semi. I crashed my semi!"
The response: Fellow driver Terry Jamieson, who was passing by, noticed the stranded truck and promptly called for help. Jamieson confirmed to dispatchers that the driver was responsive, moving his arm slightly when yelled at through the cab window.
Aftermath: Emergency crews used the jaws of life to free him, and he was airlifted to St. Joe Hospital with serious injuries, but he is expected to survive.
The exact cause of the incident is being investigated, but officials speculate it may be linked to an earlier fatal motorcycle crash on the same stretch of the highway, reported WXYZ News.
Thankfully, no other vehicles were involved, and traffic has since resumed on I-75.
