Trucker arrested after migrants found in diesel tank bust

A trucker was arrested after two migrants were found hidden inside a diesel tank in Laredo, Texas.

The incident: On the night of November 8, at around 9 p.m., a Texas trooper stopped a red Volvo semi on Interstate 35 for a traffic infraction. A K9 unit was called to inspect the vehicle.

  • The dog alerted officers to something suspicious inside the truck.
  • Upon checking, two migrants were discovered inside one of the diesel tanks.
  • The migrants were safely cut out of the tank and later handed over to the US Border Patrol.

The driver: Identified as Gonzalo Rico Jr., aged 47, was taken into custody on two felony charges of people smuggling.

Health status: The two migrants were reported to be in good health, according to the Laredo Morning Times.

The trucker is now dealing with serious charges as the legal process unfolds.
