Truck stolen in Barstow, suspect caught using GPS tracking

On March 8, 2025, in Barstow, California, a semi truck and iPad were reported stolen by a truck driver. The suspect, Erik Quiroz, used the iPad to FaceTime and threaten the truck owner.

The theft: The incident started around 6:00 p.m. when Quiroz took the semi truck. Although the truck was later found abandoned, the iPad was still missing.

  • Over the next few days, the truck driver began receiving threatening messages from Quiroz, escalating the situation.

The arrest: On March 12, the driver managed to use GPS to track his iPad to East Main Street. Police found Quiroz with the device, according to VVNG News.

  • Quiroz resisted arrest, leading to a brief struggle before being detained. One officer suffered a minor injury during the arrest.
  • He now faces several charges including vehicle theft and resisting arrest with violence.

The stolen iPad was successfully returned to its owner after Quiroz's arrest.
