Truck stolen in Barstow, suspect caught using GPS tracking

On March 8, 2025, in Barstow, California, a semi truck and iPad were reported stolen by a truck driver. The suspect, Erik Quiroz, used the iPad to FaceTime and threaten the truck owner.

The theft: The incident started around 6:00 p.m. when Quiroz took the semi truck. Although the truck was later found abandoned, the iPad was still missing.

Over the next few days, the truck driver began receiving threatening messages from Quiroz, escalating the situation.

The arrest: On March 12, the driver managed to use GPS to track his iPad to East Main Street. Police found Quiroz with the device, according to VVNG News.

Quiroz resisted arrest, leading to a brief struggle before being detained. One officer suffered a minor injury during the arrest.
He now faces several charges including vehicle theft and resisting arrest with violence.

The stolen iPad was successfully returned to its owner after Quiroz's arrest.
