Texas trucker indicted after tragic Arizona crash involving migrants

A Texas truck driver, Moises Gabriel Castillo, has been indicted on charges linked to the fatal crash involving a migrant in Arizona last July.

Details: Castillo, driving a semi truck on Interstate 10 in Tucson, rear-ended another semi, leading to a deadly skid.

  • An adult male passenger was thrown from Castillo's truck and died on the spot.
  • Three others were found hiding nearby; all were undocumented.
  • Two of the survivors needed surgery for their injuries.

Charges: Castillo faces Conspiracy to Transport Illegal Aliens and four counts of Transportation of Illegal Aliens. These crimes were allegedly committed for financial gain and involved danger to human life, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

A conviction for any of the charges can result in life imprisonment. The investigation was carried out by Homeland Security and the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and the case is being prosecuted in Arizona.
