A series of "street takeovers" rocked various locations in Cleveland over the weekend, causing significant disruptions but fortunately no injuries.
The incidents: The largest takeover occurred on Saturday night, September 28, on the I-90 Innerbelt bridge. Participants set fires, stopped traffic, and pointed guns at passing people.
- Other incidents were reported on West 25th Street and Lorain Avenue, West 65th Street, East 93rd Street and Opportunity Corridor, Steelyard Commons, and multiple other locations.
Law enforcement: Cleveland Chief of Police Dorothy Todd said the events began just after 11 p.m. on Saturday. Police believe the takeovers were organized by an individual from Cincinnati, and some out-of-town participants were involved, reported WKYC News.
Actions taken: Chief Todd confirmed no officers or community members were injured, although one officer was hit by an airsoft pellet.
While the events were chaotic, no serious damage occurred, and authorities are working to identify and arrest all those involved. According to Chief Todd, attending such events, even just to film, is a crime.
Thankfully, despite the dangerous situations, no one was hurt, and the areas affected are now clear.
