South Dakota Patrol Celebrates New Truck Inspection Facility

The South Dakota Highway Patrol had a special event to mark the opening of a new inspection facility at Tilford Port of Entry near Rapid City.

The event: Held on Wednesday, September 18, the celebration included free burgers, hot dogs, and sides for truck drivers stopping by.

What's new? The facility now features a partially indoor inspection bay which allows year-round inspections without worries about weather conditions.

  • The new facility also has advanced technology to make inspections quicker and more efficient.
  • Truckers benefited from an indoor waiting area to stay out of the elements during inspections.

Quote: "Now we can do inspections all year-round. We don’t have to worry about the weather or the snow out here in the parking lot,” said Brian Stenbeck, an inspector at the port of entry.

The Highway Patrol hopes this will make inspections easier and faster for truckers, reported KOTA TV News.
