South Dakota Hosts Trucker Appreciation Event at New Facility

Truckers passing through Rapid City, SD, enjoyed a special event on Wednesday, September 18th. The South Dakota Highway Patrol hosted a trucker appreciation event to commemorate the opening of the new inspection facility at the Tilford Port of Entry.

The big picture: The event featured free burgers, hot dogs, and sides for truckers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., along with tours of the new facility.

  • The new inspection bay allows for year-round inspections, regardless of weather conditions, keeping truckers out of the harsh elements.
  • Truckers also received small favors like pens and tote bags as a token of appreciation.

What they're saying: "Now we can do inspections all year-round. We don’t have to worry about the weather or the snow out here in the parking lot," said Brian Stenbeck, an inspector at the port of entry.

Details: The facility offers advanced technology and indoor waiting areas for truckers during inspections, which is a big improvement, reported KOTA TV News.

Events like these show the essential role truckers play in our economy and the efforts to make their job easier. The appreciation event was well-received, and thankfully no incidents were reported during the event.
