A sheriff's deputy in Delaware County, Ohio, was badly injured when hit by a jackknifing semi truck early on December 5th. The truck lost control on I-71 near Berkshire Township while deputies responded to a previous crash.
The situation: Around 4 a.m., two deputies were at the scene of a crash involving a 2009 Toyota Camry. The deputies had parked their cruisers on the highway's right-hand side with lights flashing.
- The southbound 2017 Freightliner Cascadia skidded and struck the Camry and Deputy Golden on the roadside.
- Deputy Golden and the Camry driver suffered serious injuries and were hospitalized.
- The semi truck driver was unharmed.
What they're saying: The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office stated, "Every day, our deputies face countless dangers – it is part of the job. Thursday, Deputy Golden was struck by a truck while taking a crash report on the side of the highway."
