New truck stops along Interstate 10 between Beaumont and Orange, Texas, are set to spur local economic growth.
Driving the news: Four new rest stops are planned, with one expected to open by the end of October 2024.
- "They're building new truck stops across I-10, across Texas and Louisiana as well," said Carl Cormier, Director of the CDL Program at Lamar State College-Orange.
- The stops will provide fuel, parking, and amenities tailored to truckers, boosting the region's economy.
- As Vidor City Manager Robbie Hood noted, "Every dollar spent inside the road ranger means sales tax for both the City of Vidor and Orange County."
Economic impact: Officials anticipate increased revenue from fuel sales, restaurant purchases, and merchandise aimed at truckers. The new facilities will support Southeast Texas, a hub for various industries including oil and manufacturing, according to 12NewsNow.
Lamar State College-Orange is also gearing up to address the growing need for truck drivers by offering new CDL classes every Monday.
The opening dates for the other three truck stops have yet to be announced.
