Major pileup on Highway 19 prompted by hit-and-run semi

A major crash involving a dozen vehicles on Highway 19 in Schley County, Georgia, occurred on the morning of March 25.

The details: The initial incident began when a green 2013 Ford Fusion collided with a silver 2017 Ford Fusion, which then broke down.

  • A tractor-trailer traveling southbound hit the disabled Ford Fusion and then left the scene.
  • This led to additional vehicles crashing, resulting in a total of 12 vehicles being involved in the pileup.

What we know: Eight people were transported to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, while two others were taken in private vehicles.

Foggy conditions at the time contributed to poor visibility, complicating the situation further.

Latest developments: The Georgia State Patrol is actively investigating the incident and is on the lookout for the runaway tractor-trailer. The accident blocked both lanes on Highway 19 for about two and a half hours. Anyone with information is encouraged to reach out to GSP Post 10 in Americus.
