Intoxicated semi-truck driver charged in fatal Texas crash

Early Thursday morning, a tragic crash occurred in Fort Worth, Texas, involving a semi-truck and two other vehicles.

What happened: Around 1:30 a.m., traffic was stopped in a construction zone on West Loop 820 at White Settlement Road. A semi-truck driven by 24-year-old Guadalupe Velasquez Cruz did not stop and collided with a car in front of it.

  • The driver of the struck vehicle, a woman, did not survive. Her passenger, a 41-year-old man, was seriously injured.
  • A third car was also hit, but no one inside was injured.

Fort Worth Police believe Cruz was intoxicated at the time of the crash. "There were signs that he may have been intoxicated," said Officer Brad Perez, according to Fox 4 News.

After field sobriety tests and a blood sample, Cruz tested positive for intoxication and was arrested. He is now facing intoxication manslaughter charges.

Investigation: Authorities are still examining the details of the incident to understand Cruz's actions that night.

All lanes on West Loop 820 South Freeway were temporarily closed for investigation.
