Ford Explorer crashes into MCO during traffic stop, one dead

On Friday morning, a Michigan Motor Carrier Officer (MCO) was struck by a Ford Explorer during a traffic stop on I-75 near Dix in Lincoln Park, resulting in one fatality.

What happened: The incident occurred around 8:40 a.m. when the MCO was in his cruiser, which was then hit by the Explorer. The force of the collision left the police vehicle crumpled and partially wedged under the semi’s trailer.

  • The MCO, who was wearing his seatbelt, required extrication and was taken to the hospital. He was conscious and talking.
  • The driver of the Explorer sadly succumbed to injuries and died at the scene.

Images from the scene show the severe damage to the vehicles involved.

The crash is still under investigation.
