Family sues over trucker’s tragic death from toxic fumes

The family of Viktor Voloshin, a 56-year-old truck driver, is suing a Washington trucking company after his tragic death last year. He died while cleaning out a tanker filled with toxic fumes at the Two Rivers Terminal near Seattle on June 7, 2024.

What happened: After delivering emulsified sulfur, Voloshin was instructed by company employees to clean the tanker. They provided him with a ladder to enter the container. Sadly, Voloshin was overcome by fumes and found dead at the bottom of the tanker about an hour later.

  • It's reported that it took first responders nearly three hours to arrive with the necessary safety gear to retrieve Voloshin's body, with his family waiting helplessly at the scene.

Background: This incident isn't isolated. Two Rivers Terminal has faced safety violations before. In 2023, the company was fined nearly $500,000 for previous lapses involving toxic gas exposure.

Family's stance: "No family should have to go through this," said Dmitriy Voloshin, one of Viktor's children. The family aims for accountability and safety changes, according to an attorney's statement.

The lawsuit, filed in King County, seeks damages for the family's losses and insists on major reforms in workplace safety practices.
